What should i eat?
There are food that have positive impacts on your body and food that have negative impacts and you need to know about this. Living in Asia for a while i was shocked to see supermarket trolley of Mainland Chinese People filled with highly processed food. Kids rushing on snacks. What they are putting inside their body damages it and they don’t even know about it.
Let’s cover what is good to eat, what is not good to eat and most importantly why. If no one explains you why then you don’t know but if you understand why a fruit is good for your body (your system) then you get it and you can explain it to someone else. We are going to go through food categories exactly if you were in a supermarket with your trolley. Let’s go alley by alley because it’s what most People know.
Snacks
Let’s start by the obvious. Before even focusing on what food is good for your body you need to know what food mess up your body (your system).
Processed snacks should be banned from your diet. If you eat them it won’t be easy to stop eating them from one day to another one. It’s very likely that you are addicted to them. It’s very likely that every time you see them at the supermarket or in a shop your brain goes like… CRAVIIIIINNNNG. I need that!! Not surprising given that they are designed to be addictive. If you don’t know it, the companies producing them have staff that are hired to analyze the impact on your brain of these snacks meaning that they know exactly how People’s brain react to snacks and how to increase this reaction.
The thing is that when you know how much damage snacks do to your body you stop wanting them You stop seeking very short term pleasure and think more about your long term health. Again, for those who don’t understand it, companies producing processed snacks want you to buy them so they will do everything possible for you to want them: free snacks, amazing branding, marketing playing on your emotions, hiding labelling or key information from you, …
Cereals
Sugar. Cereals usually contain a high amount of sugar. Sugar is addictive. Sugar has a negative impact on your body.
Organism Genetically Modified (OGM). The most well-known brand usually use OGM plants to manufacture cereals. The problem is the plants are modified to be more resistant. You could tell me, that’s good if the plant is more resistant! The plant will be stronger. True but the issue is what is being injected inside the plant and as you eat the plant (in the form of a cereal), you are eating what was put inside the plant and that thing can be toxic for your body. True, the plant gets stronger, more resistant to weed killers for instance (when the farmer want to kill the bad weeds in the field but does not want to kill the plants at the same time) but is the product good for you?
“Craveability”. How come you sometimes look at a box of cereals and you crave for it. It’s like your brain is asking for it. Tell you a secret, i used to eat Frosted Flakes (The Tiger one). I totally stopped that after i understood what i am doing to myself but still now, if i walk pass the cereal alley in a supermarket my brain will react to that box if i don’t control it. Do you grasp how powerful (and dangerous) this product is?
Packaging. Why is the design of cereals boxes so amazing? The animals used, the little characters used. The choice of colors, the font. Everything is made for you to want it. As a kid how can you resist it? It’s very hard. This is done on purpose. The packaging is the first thing you (your kid) sees. It needs to be amazing. Kellogg’s packaging are insanely appealing. Everything is done for your kid to relate to the box. It creates an emotional attachment between the kid and the fictitious character.
If you have kids, explain them this stuff. It’s not about avoiding the cereals alley. They can go into it but they need to do what is behind these super appealing boxes. Something toxics.
